At least two mothers are fuming mad after visiting McDonald’s in the Detroit-area, and finding that box cutters were inside their children’s Happy Meals. Both mothers made the shocking discovery upon finding their children in possession of the box cutters.
Far from being a cuddly character or like the recent announcement to include Squishmallows with Happy Meals, finding a dangerous object like a box cutter inside of a kid’s meal is an unspeakable oversight, and raises many questions.
Kayla Almashy took to Facebook to document, and alert other parents about the dangerous Happy Meal experience. She commented that she “simply wanted to warn other parents in the area to keep an eye out.”
A few weeks later, another mother named Dawn Paret, found a box cutter in her own child’s Happy Meal.
In Almashy’s case, her child had the box cutter, and handed it to her mother. Dawn Paret was also lucky and said that her child brought the “toy” to her father because it was strange and needed help opening the toy, asking “Dad, what is this”?
Dawn took to social media, demanding answers: “The amount of worry and rage that went through me – I have never experienced. A million “what ifs”. What if it was Ava (2 years old) who found it? Simply saying, a Happy Meal box is your “catch all” and someone must’ve accidentally grabbed that one is not the answer I want.”
Social media users urged the mothers to contact McDonald’s and the authorities over the incident. Paret said that she went to the McDonald’s location but wasn’t “satisfied” by the answers and conversation that she had with the manager on duty.
McDonald’s weighed in through an email statement sent to USA Today: The safety of our customers and employees is our top priority, and we take these claims seriously. We have been in touch with the customers involved and are continuing to investigate. “
Paret was expecting a call from McDonalds on the issue.
