The busiest time of the year for Chipotle is approaching. From March through May, burrito bowls and tacos are all the rage. The fast casual restaurant calls this time of year, Burrito Season.

To stay ahead of the rush , Chipotle has announced that they are going to be conducting a hiring spree so that they can keep up with the intensified demand that comes with seasonal changes. (Courtesy of: NY Times).

Nice weather and more daylight hours…apparently causes the thirst for burritos to intensify amongst the college crowd. Perhaps much in the same manner as full moons can bring the werewolves out to play.

The increase of Chipotle’s number of employees and the expansion of locations are contradictory to the general consensus among companies that are currently down-sizing and laying off workers.

Chipotle’s focus has been to match demand and open more locations across the country, they currently have plans to add almost 300 more restaurants this year alone.

We will continue bringing in new crew to support Chipotle’s aggressive growth plans,” Scott Boatwright, Chipotle’s chief restaurant officer, said in a statement.

For the financial side of the franchise, and not to get too mumbo jumbo with it – Chipotle saw a profit increase of over 20% last year. The earnings report outlined a positive picture for the restaurant and Chipotle seeks to capitalize on their success.

The prices at Chipotle are on track to go up 15% to account for inflation and the hiring bonanza. The question is once “Burrito Season” sets in, will patrons may lose their appetite when they see the higher costs?
