Aspartame, the ubiquitous artificial sweetener might be recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Agency for Research On Cancer (IARC) as a “possible carcinogen” starting in July.
This will mark the first time that Aspartame will potentially be declared a dangerous substance that can cause cancer in consumers.
The prevalent artificial sweetener, Aspartame is one of the most commonly used (and controversial) sweeteners found in drinks, desserts, gum, cough drops, yogurt, and more. It has long been touted as a healthier alternative to sugar-infested drinks like Pepsi, and Coca-Cola, since the ’70’s.
During the ’80’s, after tests were done on the sweetener – scientists were ready to declare Aspartame a carcinogen but business, corruption, and politics converged, leading to a voting committee held by the FDA (and influenced by money, what else) that pronounced Aspartame to be “safe”.
The research teams of the IRCA and WHO will make an official decision on July 14th on if Aspartame will be officially be cited as dangerous.
Die-hard Diet Coke drinkers on social media are taking the news hard, and then there are others who have been following the history of Aspartame all along:
“You can take away my Diet Coke when you pry it out of my cold dead hands.”
“If you know the history of how it got approved, you would never take health advice from the government.”
“People get addicted to it. I’ve seen it in my Mom. Taking her diet coke is like taking a drunks booze. It’ll be a fight.”
What is Aspartame Used in?
- Soda like; Diet Coke, Fanta Zero, Pepsi Max, Diet Dr. Pepper, Diet Mountain Dew, Sprite Zero, Fresca, Diet Pepsi, Barq’s Diet Root Beer
- Diet Snapple drinks
- Sugar-free gum
- Yogurts
- Sugar-free cough drops
- Frozen desserts
- Nutrasweet, Equal, and Sugar Twin
Aspartame Side-Effects
There are enough listed side-effects of Aspartame that for anyone who didn’t know any better…it could act as a weapon.
We’re talking; headaches, migraines, severe depression, irritability, epileptic seizures, bloating, edema, tooth decay, brain cancer, anxiety, insomnia, brain fog…and the list certainly goes on, and on.
It doesnt help that the history of Aspartame is sketchy at best. You’ll note that research groups are all using the word “possibly” when referring to it being a carcinogen, meaning that there are many variables that determine if the sweetener could have deadly consequences…such as how much one would have to consume before it has a negative reaction.
Anyone who ingests Aspartame would be wise to listen in on WHO’s conclusion scheduled for the 14th of July. Set a reminder.
