Pizza Hut just made an announcement about a new kind of pizza that they’ve conjured up and it’s kind of baffling. It’s a Pickle Pizza. Yes, you read right, a pizza smothered in a large amount of pickles.
The pizza chain’s head of food innovation, Penny Shaheen said in a press release:
“We’re always looking for innovative ways to add new tastes and textures to our dishes, and pickles have been gaining popularity due to their versatility.”
New taste indeed, the pizza will also hold the tomato sauce and instead, feature a base of buttermilk ranch followed by crispy breaded chicken (seasoned with Nashville Hot seasoning), white onions, and then lastly, spicy dill pickles.
If this doesn’t toot your horn, the Pickle Pizza will only be available at one location in NYC on 8th avenue. There are no plans to offer it nationwide as of yet.
The bizarre pizza creation is a bit of a headscratcher but Pizza Hut seems to think pickles are “in” right now. The press release further said that, “Building on the resurgence of pickles, Pizza Hut is taking this trend to new heights with it’s own twist on the pickle phenomenon by adding the sour, tangy food as a pizza topping.”
