On February 21st, Starbucks introduced a new line of olive oil infused coffee called the Oleato. The coffee conglomerate added the drink to the menu in select test markets to see how customers responded.

There are responses….but not the kind that Starbucks was hoping for. A Starbucks barista took to the franchise’s sub-reddit to detail what happened when the staff tried the new brew.

MoodyStarGirl started out by asking if anyone else had tried the new brew. She then goes on to wonder if anyone else experienced emergency evacuations liker her colleagues did.

To summarize not-so tactfully – disaster struck and everyone had to rush to the bathroom shortly after trying the Oleato. At the same time…

Even more disturbing is that her store manager wants the worker to keep quiet about the ordeal and ill-effects:

My SM doesn’t want us sharing this info with customers which I think is pretty F’d up.

Another poster commented that: “Caffeine is a stimulant for your bowels and oil a relaxant. So yeah wonderful idea by Starbucks.”

It would seem that the concoction is primed for the ensuing eruption. The coffee uses Partanna cold-pressed extra-virgin olive oil to make up the brew….which relaxes, and the caffeine from the coffee? No one stood a chance.

What comes from this debacle remains to be seen. Starbucks will hopefully do the right thing and put an end to the unfortunate new drink before bathrooms across America are clogged up with patrons screaming “occupied!”
