McDonald’s is feeling the heat after a Twitter user visited a location at a rest stop, and was shocked to find the cost of a Big Mac Meal was $18. He snapped a picture, and promptly took to social media where many others were just as shocked to see the expensive price.
The McDonald’s in question is located in Darien, CT an expensive area to live, in fact, one of the most expensive places in the country.
And it wasn’t just the Big Mac Meal that hit $18, the McDonald’s has multiple meals that reach that high of a price threshold, and higher.
Meal Prices
- McCrispy Meal: $17.99
- Spicy Deluxe McCrispy: $18.19
- Quarter Pounder w/Cheese: $18.99
The tweet brought on much discussion about the rising cost of fast food, and a lack of value menu’s both detrimental to the convenience, and affordability that makes fast food worth it.
The average cost of a Big Mac meal in the nation is around $10.30-12.60, a 70% markup at the rest stop location in CT.
Sam Lerner continued in the comments, looking to investigate the reason for the outrageous Big Mac price-point:
“Ok, I did a little digging and I think I might have stumbled into the country’s most expensive McDonald’s. Its $8.29 Big Mac is missing from this map, which lists $8.09 in Lee, MA as the country’s most expensive (though from a few months ago to be fair): https://pantryandlarder.com/mccheapest“
And across the board, Twitter users were aghast, sounding off on expensive meal:
“this is greedflation“
“I paid $50 for a Dairy Queen the other night that was literally like just $35 weeks ago“
They keep telling us inflation has cooled but not to those of us who experience these prices
The owner franchisee needs to get their asses whooped for this
These are not too far off. Mcdonalds is getting very greedy. 4 nuggets is 3.50$ the dollar menu/ lack there of is no more
Even with the prices going up on fast food menu’s across the board, people are still buying their food from the options available to them.
And then to add insult to injury, there are places like Starbucks, throwing out perfectly good food, and goods just because they’re relocating their location to another town!
