Twitter users are sounding off over a group of four similarly tiered restaurant chains, after “Alex C” tweeted his admonition for the popular franchises.
The tweet fueled a debate over the merits and shortcomings of these “lacking” chain restaurants and has been making the rounds with almost 6K replies and 18K retweets (and rising).
The tweet started out by calling out the restaurants Chili’s, Applebees, Olive Garden and Red Lobster.
It seems Alex C is of the opinion that these are glorified fast food restaurants that should have folded long ago, being way past the point of their expiration date.
His tweet was quickly met with major backlash over his non-popular view as a slew of comments rained down upon his controversial opinion that the restaurants bring little to the table in terms of quality fare and deliver terrible service.
Some commented sticking to fairly middle ground as, Antoun Nabhan responded with:
The more agreeable comments took issue with the franchise restaurants, stating that they dial it in – serving up a slipshod experience.
WM3798 The last one of these places I went to was Olive Garden it was expensive and absolute garbage. I can microwave better at home“.
Others found no issue with an available, affordable option for eating out, catering to families at a lower price point.
“They offer a sit-down restaurant at almost fast food-level prices. They allow families to go out to eat inexpensively. I don’t see what the mystery is here. Have you ever visited a single suburb or small town?” Divergiment pointed out.
As the fury of tweeting and replying commenced, perhaps overwhelmed with the amount of negative reaction to his initial tweet, Alex C later wrote that he had “triggered all of suburban America.”
He had pulled out his trump card, lumping together anyone that disagreed by inferring that the people in non-agreeance were only a reflection of a suburban America that doesn’t know any better when it comes to a quality dining experience and quality food.
Whether Alex C was simply stirring the pot and causing an uprising on Twitter or honestly expressing his view over the lackluster performances of the four restaurants, is anyone’s guess – the tweet exploded, going viral, and is still being furiously defended and attacked across the Twitterverse.
Twitter poster, Alex C may have struck a chord within the population that values a local, convenient restaurant to eat out at – that comes without a steep price tag attached.
