Honolulu, Hawaii – A horrific incident unfolded at a Wendy’s in Honolulu when a dispute started over a customer moving tables around inside of the restaurant. The situation escalated into violence, resulting in the fatal stabbing of an employee and the serious injury of another.
The incident began when Wendy’s employee, 22-year-old Kashka Otto, became involved in a verbal altercation with customer, 60-year-old Reynaldo Cheney, over rearranging tables, Otto and another employee then escorted Cheney out of the restaurant.
The argument took a turn when Cheney called Otto a derogatory name, and the employee answered by punching the 60-year-old man in the parking lot. Cheney then produced a knife and stabbed Otto multiple times. When his coworker tried to intervene, he was also stabbed by Cheney.
Both Wendy’s employees were escorted to Queen’s Medical Center Punchbowl after the altercation where Otto passed away from his injuries. His coworker was in serious condition and released a few days later
Following the stabbing, Cheney was taken into custody by Honolulu police and is currently being held at the Oahu Community Correctional Center where he was charged with Homicide. His bail is set at $1 million.
Cheney doesn’t have a criminal record but has received various citations for illegal camping over the years, including an outstanding warrant for the same.
Otto was a Waianae High School graduate and volleyball player.. His peers say that he was a “he was a big guy but with a sensitive soul.”
Wendy’s coworker said about Otto: “He would always give a smile when taking people’s orders. He was really great. He was a great person.”
