Inspired by a new and weird TikTok Trend, Popeye’s has added their version of what they’re calling “Girl Dinner”, to menu’s nationwide, but it can only be ordered online from Popeye’s website at this time.

The move, is possibly inspired by McDonald’s Grimace Shake, and the resultant viral epidemic it created on social media. Popeye’s may be looking to cash in similarily by trawling the current trends, and exploiting them, to tie their name into an already existing trend for publicity.

#Girldinner Trending

The latest trend is the #girldinner phenomenon, which user, Olivia Maher is credited with starting after she made a video reply to another user.

In her video, Maher references a TikTok video where someone derides medieval times, and how peasants had to eat nothing but bread and cheese. She pans the camera to show that that’s exactly what she’s eating, and that it’s her normal, preferred meal.

“I call this dinner…Girl Dinner.”

The science behind “girl dinner” is that it’s basically a cacophony of sides or snacks built around cheese, and leftovers, kind of like a more robust Lunchable.

Some are calling it an unhealthy trend that promotes unhealthy eating as the girl dinner phenom spiraled into woman showcasing their own version of the girl dinner…a can of soda, popcorn, a can of corn – essentially, meager servings that lack any substance whatsoever.

Whether it’s just girls having fun or snacking, and the trend is being picked apart by the righteous…you be the judge. Popeye’s has gone full-steam ahead.

Popeye’s Girl Dinner

Popeyes said in a press release that, “The girl dinner” menu was designed to give its fans “options packed with robust Cajun flavors that are made with the same slow, time-honored, homemade traditions of Southern cooking that the brand started in 1972.”

The meal is centered around ordering a bunch of sides, as little or as many as you may desire, and so there’s no set price-point:

  • Maahed Potatoes
  • Macaroni and Cheese
  • Cajun Fries
  • Cole Slaw
  • Biscuits
  • Red Beans and Rice
