McDonald’s may have officially ended Grimace’s birthday celebration, aka his 52nd anniversary as a mascot for the franchise, on the heels of the explosive viral sensation that catapulted the Grimace Milkshake into superstardom.
The Grimace Birthday Meal, and the Grimace Shake – two menu items that Grimace brought along for the ride during his return, are likely already pulled off menu’s with no option for continuing them…at least for now.
It’s been a common complaint that the shake has been sold out, nowhere to be found, leading to upset customer’s everywhere.
The people who are likely celebrating the end of a celebration, are the employee’s at McDonald’s who will be more than glad to see the #grimaceshake slink back from whence it came. The viral video trend it inspired, was contingent on the purchase of a Grimace Shake required to spawn countless horror movie shorts on social media.
The shakes were reportedly a pain to make, and the orders for it just kept coming, setting workers back, and causing a commotion.
Grime Scene Viral Video Trend
There have been an untold number of “Grime Scenes” filmed around the world and uploaded to social media with celebrities like Courtney Cox jumping in on the madness. She made her own video where her dog drink of the shake once her back was turned, and he transformed into a giant dog-monster.
With Grimace’s run ending, will the Grime Scenes come to end as well? Only time will tell.
McDonald’s made an announcement on Twitter (as Grimace) that pointed to his Grimace’s exit midst the viral madness he inspired:
“u made me feel so special ty. say goodbye grimace nowww“
Whether McDonald’s had foreseen a world where the Grimace Shake would become bigger than The Beatles, and used as a poisonous murder weapon by millions of people…is unknown.
No More Grimace Shake?
The reactions to Grimace’s goodbye post, were filled with people sad to see Grimace go, but many more were still asking where they could get their hands on a #GrimaceShake:
I wanted to try the shake so bad but my local McDonald’s always claimed they didn’t have it–even though the advertisements were right there in the sign. I think they just didn’t want to make the shake.
I’m at McDonalds right now and the shakes are no longer on menus.
My son cried because couldn’t find the meal.
Grimace replied to these shake-seekers:
the Grimace’s Birthday Meal is available for a limited time at participating restaurants, while supplies last. you can connect with your fave restaurant to share your preferences or check out our other nearby stores for the same.
NO MORE SHAKE?!
While the world is still obsessed with Grimace, and his shake – McDonald’s chose to make his exit on a high note…a very “it’s better to burn out than to fade away” kind of deal. With the rousing success of his return, it wouldn’t be surprising if he came back for a 53rd birthday celebration, spurring a whole new round of videos, and murders.
