The forgotten McDonald’s mascot Grimace returns. He’s being brought back into the limelight just in time for his 51st birthday. And with his arrival, he will come bearing gifts, in the form of new menu additions.
The last the public had seen of Grimace was in 2012 when he appeared at a baseball game dancing to the classic song Black Betty. He disappeared after that appearance and hasn’t been heard from since, side-lined along with the rest of his forgotten posse.
The big purple raisin-esque mascot is heeding the call for a return, and will be busting back onto the scene, armed with a few new food creations to be added onto McDonald’s menu this month.
New Quarter Pounder, Shake, and Birthday Meal
Last week there was information leaked on Reddit by a McDonald’s employee about a new menu item coming to town. They took and posted a picture of sliced jalapenos and cheese that they discovered in a cooler at McDonald’s pointing to a new dish on the horizon.
Speculation led to the realization that a new Quarter Pounder with cheese sauce and jalapenos was in the pipe-line.
PRN Newswire confirmed the rumor – the Cheesy Jalapeño Bacon Quarter Pounder will be hitting on June 20th, and features, pickled jalapeños, apple-wood smoked bacon, a sesame seed bun, and spicy cheese sauce.
An announcement made by Chief Marketing and Customer Experience Officer, Tariq Hassan at McDonald’s USA said:
“Our fans have amazing childhood memories of their birthdays at McDonald’s…and Grimace’s Birthday is all about paying homage to the amazing, fun moments we all share.”
To ring in Grimace’s birthday on June 12th, a new purple milkshake called the Grimace Shake will be making the rounds for a limited time. Reports say it will be a berry-flavored milkshake.
Lastly, will be the addition of Grimace’s Birthday Meal.The meal will include the Grimace shake, choice of a Big Mac or 10-piece Chicken McNuggets, and fries.
