The future is upon us and Taco Bell is going to help us get there by targeting electric vehicle owner’s with an ambitious plan to install EV chargers at Taco Bell locations…starting in California.

The move seems like a no-brainer for Taco Bell, being that the sale of all gas-powered vehicles has been banned in California starting in 2035, with plans on the horizon for other states to follow suit.

The sales for electric vehicles meanwhile are way up and coincidentally, the age group of the average EV buyer matches that of the target and most frequent customer at Taco Bell.

Elektrek.co reports that Diversified Energy Group, one of Taco Bell ‘s largest franchisee owners…is collaborating with ChargeNet to offer charging stations at their locations.

To charge an electric vehicle with a 100 mile charge would cost customers about $20.

ChargeNet’s CEO remarked, “Call it quick food, quick charge. You can get an EV charge and a chalupa all in one easy stop.

The concept is appealing for anyone that has an EV, especially if the chargers needed to keep it going are few and far between.

Charging stations have already been installed at six Taco Bell locations in California with plans to expand them at up to 120 more Taco Bell’s in the same state.

Dutt added that:

We are committed to catalyzing the EV revolution to ensure it spans across all demographics. This is why we are working with quick-serve restaurants, where an estimated 120 million Americans eat every day. About half of our locations are in marginalized communities across California, providing charging access to people who may not have the luxury of a home charging station. We are out to democratize EV charging across California and beyond.

The marrying of Taco Bell and charging stations for electric vehicles may be an ingenious strategy for the fast food chain to put into motion.

With electric vehicle’s being bought in the droves, and sales on a steady rise, especially within the twenty-something age range – Taco Bell may be scooping up a large portion of a market that is seeking a solution for more convenient ways and places to charge their cars.

The price of home charging stations is not cheap and add in the maintenance…EV owners would be ecstatic to gain access to charging stations at Taco Bell, and then to also eat a Mexican Pizza while charging?

Sounds like a plan.
