After months of testing on the West Coast, the Golden Arches’ “best new burgers ever” initiative has gone live, bringing the advertised “juicier, hotter, and tastier” Big Macs, McDoubles, Cheeseburgers, Double Cheeseburgers, and Hamburgers to every corner of the US, as the Hamburglar travels from location to location to celebrate.
And to celebrate this burger bonanza, the notorious Hamburglar is making a triumphant return, starring in a series of playful commercials highlighting the improved burgers. He’s even hit the road in his tricked-out “Burgercuda,” cruising across the country and tempting burger lovers with exclusive deals and swag
But this revamp isn’t just about throwing more beef on a bun. McDonald’s has. analyzed and tweaked every element of the burger experience, from sourcing to preparation. So far, the reports have been rolling in from customers on these “upgrades”, and frankly they don’t seem to be…”Lovin It”.
50 Changes Put to the Test
Some of the 50+ changes that were implemented into McDonald’s new burgers:
Softer Buns: Say goodbye to those dry, crumbly buns! McDonald’s switched to a new, softer brioche-style option that promises to cradle your patty in pillowy goodness.
Meltier Cheese: The new process is supposed to ensure perfectly melted cheese that stretches with every bite, adding a gooey, delicious dimension to your burger.
Seared Patties: Forget limp, pale patties. McDonald’s now chars their beef for a deeper flavor and satisfyingly juicy texture.
Onions Gone Fancy: McDonald’s is now caramelizing their onions, adding a touch of sweetness and complexity to every bite.
More Big Mac Sauce: Big Mac fans, this one’s for you! The iconic sauce is getting a generous bump, amplifying that signature tangy-sweet flavor in every mouthful.
New Burger Feedback
The response to the upgraded burgers has been lackluster with social media abuzz arguing over the new (and mostly, not improved) taste. Obviously there are some fans that think the changes were a great improvement.
Here are some of the common complaints we’ve heard:
Thin, Swiss-Cheesed Burgers: So far McDonald’s hasn’t delivered on the promise of bigger burgers. It seems the beef patties have been thinned out, with many customers receiving patties that resemble Swiss cheese, and looking as if they’ve been shot at with a BB gun.
Rehydrated Onions: The new way the onions are cooked isn’t jiving with folks, and makes for a different, less tasty, erm…taste.
Brioche Bun: Changing the Big Mac’s bun to a brioche bun was a bad move. There was nothing wrong with the original bun, and the new one tends to get soggy, especially with all that Big Mac Sauce they now load on. It’s very messy, and falls apart quickly.
Not-so-melty Cheese: The cheese is still cold most of the time, arriving on your burger as if straight from the fridge, and congealed.

Will the Hamburglar’s return and McDonald’s burger makeover be enough to reignite America’s love affair with the fast-food giant? Only time will tell, for now the burger wars heat up, and McDonald’s fights to stay in the game.
