The day of reckoning has come for a Dunkin Donut’s staple. The Dunkaccino – Dunkin’s popular hot drink has been around since its inception, 2000-2001.
It’s achieved fame and notoriety throughout the years, even being featured in a mock commercial in the movie Jack and Jill with Al Pacino as a fictional spokesmodel.
The half coffee, half cappuccino’s future has been uncertain for a while with whispers trickling through the social media grapevine over the last few months. Comments started popping up as consumers were coming across the absence of the Dunkaccino on menus.
An announcement today finally made it official, confirming that the drink would be retiring.
“As we focus on innovation and finding new ways to delight guests, we continually evolve our menu in an effort to deliver a fast, frictionless experience,” a Dunkin’ spokesperson told Delish.
The worst decision ever. Dunkin used to have great coffee but it’s steadily going down hill.
Good news, everybody, they’re earning enough earned media attention from this stunt that they can schedule the followup press release about “changing their minds”! The national coffee chain isn’t going to stop serving a cappuccino-style coffee beverage after all!“
Some hope has been offered for crushed consumers: “The Dunkaccino is retired for now, but there’s always the chance for its return in the future,” continued the Dunkin’ spokesperson in their statement.
Which begs the question…PR stunt or genuine discontinuation?
