Billionaire Bill Gates left Michelin-starred Chef Jordi Cruz baffled when he booked an entire restaurant only to take one sip of his Diet Coke, and leave his $313 meal uneaten.
Gates has had a long obsession with Diet Coke, reportedly calculating his consumption of the beverage to result in aluminum waste equal to about 35 pounds annually.
Chef Jordi Cruz tells the tale in an interview found by Yahoo with Planeta Calleja, that left him speechless.
Allegedly, Bill Gates booked Cruz’s prestigious restaurant, ABaC for two days, all to himself and his crew.
Gates proceeded to take a sip of his Diet Coke and then neglected the expensive meal that he had been served. In fact, once he had taken his sip…he went back to his private plane.
“Some time ago, Bill Gates came to the restaurant. Everyone came with him … his 25 bodyguards, entourage. Bill booked out the whole restaurant, just for him,” Cruz said. “We had prepared the best and biggest for him and his team. And do you know what Bill did? He ordered a Diet Coke and went back to his plane.”
The Michelin-star meal was left behind and Cruz remains baffled by the encounter saying, “”There are people who have money, they’re a bit tired of everything. They value things less.”
Gates made headlines last week when he bought $96 million worth of shares of Bud Light’s parent company, Anheuser-Busch. The move has been questioned by a former executive with the company as a “mistake”, and social media users who were disgusted by the continued drama surrounding the brands.
