A couple in Oklahoma got a horrific surprise after stopping to order coffee at Starbucks (Courtesy of: The New York Post).

The O’Dell’s has stopped for their customary Starbuck’s fix and ordered an iced Americano and a venti caramel Frappuccino, the bill totaling to around $10.

They didn’t notice after they left and continued on with their day. It wasn’t until DeeDee O’Dell was in the mall a few days later that she noticed something was amiss.

Deedee went to make a purchase and used the same credit card that they had used at Starbucks. This time the card was declined.

Her husband, Jesse checked his receipt from Starbucks and saw a total charge amount of $4,456.27.

The husband and wife immediately contacted Starbucks for support on the huge error that had drained their account dry.

Starbuck’s resolution was to send the couple a check for the egregious charge.

It gets worse – when they deposited the checks received from the coffee conglomerate, they bounced.

The O’Dell’s placed call after call to their customer service looking for answers on the bounced check.

The O’Dell’s Starbuck’s questionable receipt

We contacted their customer service helpline probably 30-40 times that day” said Jesse O’Dell.

They filed a complaint with the Tusla police department that was later closed once the check finally went through.

Apparently, there was a “typo” on the checks that had caused them to bounce and Starbucks had to resend a check.

As for the reason behind the debacle in the first place? A representative with Starbuck’s tried to place the blame on Jesse O’Dell.

In an interview with Starbuck’s, they said that the customer was the one who accidentally submitted an “enormous tip” causing the entire situation to transpire.

I know how to press buttons. I didn’t press that button. If it wasn’t your barista than it is definitely your network. Which is a really big issue. ” Jesse said in an interview.

The couple also had a family trip planned to Thailand and had already purchased non-refundable plane tickets. Because their money had effectively been held hostage – their budget was out the window and they were forced to cancel the trip.

This is something that has caused duress in our family and hopefully others don’t have to go through something like this.”

They advise everyone to learn from their situation and check their receipts to avoid the costly lesson they were served at Starbuck’s.
