Krispy Kreme has announced the expansion of their partnership with McDonald’s, and a date we can see begin. In a strategic move designed to tap into the vast customer base of the fast-food giant, Krispy Kreme will be opening new locations within McDonald’s restaurants nationwide across the United States.

Starting this fall, the long anticipated expansion will begin launching in Chicago, Illinois. Up to this date, both brands have been testing the waters selling Krispy Kreme’s donuts at locations throughout Kentucky since fall 2022. And in the beginning of 2023, they expanded to over 160 locations in 9 markets in the state.

This collaboration marks a significant expansion for Krispy Kreme, which has traditionally operated as a standalone chain. By partnering with McDonald’s, the doughnut maker aims to increase its visibility and accessibility to customers, especially those who frequent McDonald’s for their daily meals or snacks.

According to a press release, there will be 1,000 McDonald’s locations offering the famed donuts with “5,000 more by 2025 and 6,000 more by 2026, accounting for 85% of McDonald’s U.S. presence.”

The partnership is expected to bring the iconic doughnuts to a wider audience and provide a convenient and delicious addition to the McDonald’s menu while boosting sales for the iconic donut chain.

This collaboration could also benefit McDonald’s by attracting new customers and driving sales. The allure of fresh Krispy Kreme doughnuts alongside their classic burgers and fries could create a compelling value proposition for consumers.

Josh Charlesworth, the CEO of Krispy Kreme:We’re very focused on delivering a really high-quality service to the McDonald’s restaurants so that people get awesome fresh doughnuts every day at the same quality level they expect in Krispy Kreme and other channels.”

A specialized team is working with McDonald’s to ensure the roll-out is a smooth process.

Charlesworth continued: “We have a dedicated cross-functional team there to make sure the facilities and our people are ready. In fact, we’re also making improvements to the production lines and even doing our best to improve productivity and up our game as we go.”

As the partnership unfolds, it will be interesting to see how it impacts both Krispy Kreme and McDonald’s. Will this partnership result in a win-win situation for both companies? Our magical crystal ball says, yes.
