McDonald’s in South Korea have announced the return of two fan favorites – the Prosperity, and the Prosperity Gold Special Burger. And both are available until January 24th for a limited-time only…
What are these so-called Prosperity Burgers you ask?
The one-part McRib, Prosperity Gold Special is an interesting take on a McDonald’s classic. It gets it’s unique flavor from the addition of a hash brown patty with other added ingredients while the Prosperity Burger is a bit different, employing a black pepper sauce, a chicken or beef patty, and crunchy onions, on a sesame seed bun. Both burgers are usually paired with what are called Twister Fries (curly fries) and the Prosperity McFizz beverage.
Originally introduced in 2013, the Prosperity Burger was followed by the Prosperity Gold Burger in 2021. The burgers are so popular in South Korea that within three weeks in 2021, 1.5 million Prosperity Burger were sold.
Prosperity Gold Special
The Gold Special uses a pork patty garnished with a hash brown patty, lettuce, onion, garlic sauce, and mayo on a sesame seed sub bun. There have been other versions over the years, including the Prosperity Red Burger which used a BBQ sauce as it’s main flavor event, and in 2018, you could get the “burger” with a beef-based patty or a chicken-based patty.
A McDonald’s Korean official said in a statement:
“The Prosperity Burger is McDonald’s special menu item for our customers to wish for good luck in the upcoming year. At the same time, it provides a good opportunity for them to participate in a charity event. We hope our customers have a more meaningful year in 2022 and convey good luck to more families in need.”
McDonald’s Australia also did another take on the McRib called the McRib Deluxe which adds lettuce, tomato, cheese, and a McChicken sauce to the classic sandwich. It returned to the menu in November for a limited-run. A little known fact is that there are only two places you can get a classic McRib year-round, Luxembourg, and Germany.
