Employees at a McDonald’s in the UK are taking the idea of their vegan burger very seriously when it comes to the McPlant.

In a viral video making waves on TikTok that has garnered over 11.1 million views – workers refused to sell a man a single slice of cheese because he wanted to combine the vegan burger with regular cheese which “goes against the whole vegan thing”.

In his first video, Louis Wright (@itsyourboylouis) asked for a slice of normal cheese to go along with his McPlant burger, and it seemed like the order would go off without a hitch until the worker chimed in at the second window that he was being denied the cheese.

The TikToker started recording once his order went south and he decided to try it all over again.

Wright went back to the McDonald’s to place the same exact order for a second time “purely out of spite”.

Immediately, he faced glaring odds when he was told for the second time, that he could not have the cheese.

He even asked if he could order cheese separately, in it’s own box and pay for the entire cheeseburger.

Still, they would not have it. The very idea that Louis would combine the McPlant with regular cheese was throwing the employees for a loop. They reiterated numerous times that it was against policy.

A mind-boggling back and forth transpired between Wright and employees:

“Um I’m not gonna sell it to you”…”Because you’re gonna put it in your burger”.

“I’m allowed to do that. That’s not for you to say”.

“You can’t put normal cheese in the burger”.

That same worker expressed his concern that he would get fired for such a calamitous affair once it gets “plastered all over social media” then “I’ll get fired” and ” I’m not getting fired over a slice of cheese.”

At some point it became clear that McDonald’s corporate must have briefed their employees on the importance of keeping their vegan offerings separate from the rest of the menu. But the level of ridiculousness with which they ran with it was out of this world.

The request for the “gatekept” cheese to be paired with the vegan burger was a legitimate appeal from a customer that didn’t serve to contaminate or harm anyone’s order.

The situation was startling to say the least, with the thought process behind the employees reasoning making no sense. Tiktok erupted over the video, and as of this current moment – there are over 30,000 flabbergasted comments.

Louis Wright eventually did have his request honored…when he went to a different McDonald’s location that had no issue with his need for cheese.
