What happens when a Burger King employee stomps lettuce with his feet planted squarely into two tubs meant for customers food….and then takes a picture of it and posts it on the internet?

Nothing good as it happens to turn out.

And it did happen…, in 2012, when the employee was working at a Burger King in the Cleveland-area. His next fatal decision was to have someone take his picture while standing square in it.

He wasted no time, and posted the image to the site 4-chan with the caption:

“This is the lettuce you eat at Burger King”.

Not surprisingly something about the image rubbed users of the site the wrong way, and the detective work began within seconds.

Like modern day Nancy Drews with Hardy Boy-esque gumption, the employees location was sussed out within mere minutes using GPS data embedded within the image.

The lurkers of 4-chan forwarded the picture to numerous news outlets in Cleveland where it was picked up by the publication, Cleveland Scene Magazine who alerted the manager less than twenty four hours later.

A total of three Burger King employees were fired over the lettuce-stomping incident.

Burger King released a statement on the incident saying that the location:

“is independently owned and operated by a Burger King franchisee.”Food safety is a top priority at all Burger King restaurants and the company maintains a zero-tolerance policy against any violations such as the one in question.”

How can someone do such a thing you might ask…were they looking for fame? Fortune? Or maybe they weren’t looking for anything at all and instead were just nursing a bad case of boredom. Whatever the case may be, it’s extremely fortuitous that we can all rely on the likes of anonymous people on the internet, out for their own form of vengeance.

And best of all, lettuce is a dish best served cold… and not stomped.
