Have you noticed recently that you can’t get an Egg White Delight McMuffin at any McDonald’s? McDonald’s has perhaps the most popular fast food breakfast menu around, but their selections are always subject to change. If you’re a big fan of the Egg White Delight McMuffin, we’ve got some bad news.
The Egg White Delight McMuffin From McDonald’s Is Gone
Egg whites are a relatively recent addition to McDonald’s. The sandwich itself debuted in 2013, offering a comparatively healthier variant on the traditional and much-loved Egg McMuffin standard. Extra-lean Canadian bacon was combined with egg whites and American cheddar on a whole grain English muffin. The result was a sandwich that was immediately popular with some.
However, the sandwich was discontinued nationally just a few years later. Many didn’t realize it, until it became apparent recently that McDonald’s has ceased offering egg whites entirely.
Will Egg Whites Ever Be Brought Back at McDonald’s?
What’s interesting is that while the Egg White Delight McMuffin was discontinued on a national scale in 2018, individual McDonald’s locations could still offer it to their customers at their discretion. Many did, until the sandwich was completely eliminated from all menus in 2020.
That’s not quite the end of the story. Until just last year, McDonald’s website indicated that egg whites were still an option to customers as a potential substitution. This changed just recently in May of 2021 when this indication was scrubbed from their site. McDonald’s made no mention of this initially. In fact, they didn’t even make the news official until earlier this month.
Since this was done in the name of “simplifying the menu”, it seems unlikely that the egg whites will be back anytime soon. McDonald’s started taking steps to drop the sandwich years ago at this point. The fact that they only recently announced its full demise is unfortunate for those who hope egg whites in general might make a comeback at the chain.
