According to the latest Wendy’s press release, the franchise will be partnering with a company called Pipedream to develop an ambitious new system that’s never been done before. It’s also aimed at getting car-side customers their food in just seconds.

The plan would involve deploying robots to fulfill digital orders that would then be delivered via a circuit of underground tunnels that lead to parking spaces outside of the restaurant.

The robots would be autonomous, navigating the tunnels directly to each space.

Pickup Kiosks, called Instant Pickup portals would be at each parking space, and the food would arrive through the kiosks.

Deepak Ajmani, Wendy’s US Chief Operations Officer said, “Pipedream’s Instant Pickup system has the potential to unlock greater mobile order speed of service and accuracy, enabling us to consistently deliver hot and fresh Wendy’s products to our fans.”

This news comes on the heels of Wendy’s announcement that they will be implementing the usage of AI when customer’s place their order. Many fast food franchises, in fact, already use AI and if they don’t, they’re well on their way.

The press release states that the new Pickup portal technology will be rolled out to one Wendy’s location sometime during 2023, and testing will commence.
