A slew of restaurants, including a Wendy’s located in Florida, received multiple health violations, with some locations even ordered to cease business operations after flies, roaches, and mold were among the unsanitary conditions observed in the kitchen, and where food is prepared.

According to a local news report, the restaurants can reopen pending a deep clean, and a reinspection.

The most disturbing part is that some locations weren’t shutdown even though they had the same violations as the ones that did get shutdown. It’s entirely up to the health inspector, and seems to be quite random.

A health inspector with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation set out last week to observe conditions in various fast food establishments, and the results are alarming.

Some locations received as many as 22 violations

Locations Shutdown

  • Federal Way, Oakland Park – 9 Violations
  • NW 62nd St, Fort Lauderdale – 4 Violations
  • West Sample Rd, Margate – 11 Violations
  • SE 145th Terrace, Pembroke Pines – 14 Violations

Locations With Violations

Some gross ‘highlights’ from the report include:

“Stop Sale issued due to food not being in a wholesome, sound condition. Front line dessert station: Observed 22 live flying insects flying around and landing on ready to eat condiments and to go cup container lids.”

“Roach activity present as evidenced by live roaches found. Observed 5 live roaches under cook line equipment going into gap where metal wall meets floor in kitchen.”

“Nonfood-contact surface soiled with grease, food debris, dirt, slime or dust.”

“Dead roaches on premises. Observed 1 dead roach on ground outside of walk in cooler in kitchen. Operator removed cleaned and sanitized. Repeat Violation.”

“Food-contact surface soiled with food debris, mold-like substance or slime. Soda nozzle by bar area, buildup of black like substance.”

“Dead flies on premises. Nine dead flies on iced tea tray next to mop sink in dish wash area.”

The report of the violations reads more like a horror scene rather than a run-down of what’s going on behind the scenes at a fast food joint. And it’s an eye-opener.

Many times disgusting intrusions can make their way into the food, which is then served to the customer and is…not a welcome surprise to say the least.
