Holland, Michigan – Vennice Leon, 44, has been charged in her husband’s death following an argument over a video game console purchase in a parking lot at Wendy’s. The incident happened in Holland, Michigan on March 24th.
Around 12:35pm, the couple was parked at a Wendy’s fighting over which console to purchase for the family. Vennice wanted to buy a Nintendo Switch and 45-year-old Robert Baltazar Leon, a PS5. They were inside of a ’09 Dodge Charger in the parking lot with Vennice’s daughter in the backseat when the situation escalated. At that point, Baltazar allegedly became aggressive and then got out of the Charger. That was when Vennice locked the doors.
Baltazar jumped onto the hood of the vehicle, “holding on where the windshield wipers are” as Vennice proceeded to drive and didn’t stop. As she made a left-hand turn, Baltazar “slipped off and hit his head” on the asphalt.

The injury was fatal with Baltazar succumbing to his injuries later that night in the hospital.
Vennice said “that’s what caused him to pass away. He had a brain bleed that was inoperable.”
In an interview with the news outlet, MLive she described the incident:
“He got really upset. I’ve never seen him fly off the handle like that … I don’t know why he got so angry. But then he started calling me names, and being very aggressive. He scared my daughter. She screamed at the top of her lungs, like scared cuz he was yelling at me. He slapped me and then he punched my arm. I told him, ‘You know, I can cancel the order; I can order the PS5.”
Vennice said her daughter was terrified in the backseat, screaming for her to leave.
“My daughter’s screaming. She’s like going, ‘Mom, get me out of here; get me away from him, Mom. Save me’. So I pulled out of the parking spot, and I went to go forward.”
When asked why Leon kept driving with her husband on the hood, she said:
“My daughter freaking out. He was trying to break the window on the driver’s side door. I was scared, I’ve never seen him like that.”
The couple had been married for 12 years, Vennice maintains that her husband was “her best friend” and that the incident “happened too fast”.
Leon was released on a personal-recognizance bond after her arraignment on May 20th. She faces up to a year in jail and/or a $2000 fine for one count of a Moving Violation Causing Death. A pre-trial hearing is scheduled for May 28th.
