Exciting news is coming from the land of the Colonel – the bun-less Double Down is being put back on the menu after an absence of almost ten years (Courtesy of: WWNYTV).
The Double Down was once a foray into uncharted territory, not just for KFC but for all fast food franchises.
No one had the drumsticks to come up with a sandwich that consisted of two chicken fillets in place of the standard sandwich bun, and to have it hold everything together.
The Double Down came onto the scene in 2010 and then once again in 2014 for a short spell. Many quickly came to be die-hard fans of the unusual creation during it’s run.
Something about the two crispy chicken fillets cradling cheese, bacon and mayo or spicy sauce was apparently legendary in it’s time.
Ever since then though – it has been forgotten, relegated to be a ghost of KFC’s past.
Starting next Monday, March 6th – the Double Down will be making it’s come-back and staying on the menu for approximately four weeks.
Twitter feeds have been going crazy celebrating the news ever since KFC tweeted about the bun-less sandwiches return.
Many acknowledged and confirmed the fact that they have been low-key begging for KFC to bring back the Double Down via customer service emails over the years.
All that’s left to say is if you plan on being first in line to re-experience one of your favorite KFC sandwiches, or to see what the hubbub is all about – napkins. Lots and lot of napkins.
