Chipotle Mexican Grill is responding to growing customer complaints about portion sizes with a clear commitment to serving up more generous helpings. In a recent statement, CEO Brian Niccol acknowledged the concerns and assured customers that the company is taking steps to address the issue.

“Generous portions are a core part of the Chipotle experience,” Niccol said. “We understand that our customers value the amount of food they receive, and we are committed to meeting and exceeding their expectations.”

The announcement comes after a wave of social media posts and news articles highlighting perceived reductions in portion sizes at Chipotle locations across the country. Customers expressed disappointment and frustration over what they felt were increasingly smaller servings for the price.  

In response to the outcry, Chipotle has initiated a comprehensive review of its portion control guidelines and employee training procedures. The company is also implementing stricter quality control measures to ensure consistency in serving sizes across all restaurants

“We believe that by taking these steps, we can regain the trust of our customers and deliver the exceptional dining experience they deserve,” Niccol added.

Last year, a Chipotle employee blew the whistle on portion control in a video on TikTok which exposed the chain instructing their workers to skimp on the food. The CEO’s statement on the situation, is a surprising confirmation of the portion control going on at certain locations.

Niccols continued: “We are re-emphasizing training and coaching round ensuring we are consistently making bowls and burritos correct. We have also leaned in and re-emphasized generous portions across all of our restaurants.”

The fast-casual restaurant chain says they will continue to prioritize customer satisfaction, but will the upcoming changes in portion sizes really be carried out?
