Taco Bell fans, have you noticed your drinks seeming a little smaller lately? The first to point out the alleged downsized cups was a Taco Bell employee so posted a picture comparing the old cups with the new cups online.
Now Taco Bell customers are singing the same tune: the fast-food chain has secretly reduced the size of their cups. But is there any truth to these rumors?
The idea of shrinking cup sizes isn’t entirely new. In 2017, Taco Bell did eliminate their extra-large (XL) beverage cups, reducing their largest size to 30 ounces. This move, was done publicly and aimed to promote healthier portion sizes.
So, what about the recent claims? There haven’t been any official announcements from Taco Bell regarding cup size changes. The online chatter seems to have originated from a Reddit post, where an alleged employee shared a photo comparing what they claimed were the old and new medium cups.
They captioned with: “I work at Taco Bell and with the recent delivery me and a coworker noticed that the medium cups have been downsized.”
Another Taco Bell employee echoed the sentiment: “Yes I work at Taco Bell and they just recently slightly changed their sizes.”
The original poster claims that 2 oz. have been deleted from the new cups. They continued: “Saw someone else’s post from last week, the new large cups are 24oz VS 26oz previously. A 7.7% decrease for the same price. Assuming the medium is also 1-2oz less. I’m not bugging over it but just think it’s weird that this is where they try to cut costs? Maybe take some unnecessary items off the menu? Bring back the quesarito? Do something else besides shrinkflation.”
There’s no concrete evidence, but the general consensus seems to be that this is an act of shrinkflation.
Here’s what we know for sure:
• Taco Bell has not publicly announced any cup size reductions in 2024.
• There’s a lack of verifiable evidence to support the claims.
If you’re concerned about getting the advertised drink size, you can always ask your Taco Bell server to ensure your cup is filled to the line.
Until there’s an official announcement from Taco Bell, we’re only going off reports!
