Bradford, UK – According to reports, a woman was injured following an incident at a McDonald’s restaurant located on Ingleby Road this past Monday afternoon. Police were called on the scene after receiving a call at around 3:15pm concerning the safety of a woman at the fast food establishment.
Initially the authorities were called by someone expressing concern for a woman at the restaurant. They didn’t find the woman immediately upon their arrival and stuck around for an undisclosed amount of time before eventually making their way into the bathroom of the McDonald’s. They found the woman ablaze, on the toilet and worked to quickly extinguish the fire.
There’s no evidence of foul play as investigators say the woman had set herself on fire while on the toilet in the McDonald’s bathroom.
West Yorkshire Police said in a statement: “Police are in attendance at the McDonalds restaurant on Ingleby Road, Bradford, after a woman was found with significant injuries. A call was received at 3:15pm relating to a concern for safety for a woman at an undisclosed location. The woman was taken to hospital by ambulance. Enquiries are ongoing but at this time there is nothing to suggest anyone else was involved in this incident.”
The McDonald’s restaurant was closed for a short period as police conducted their investigation. The restaurant has since reopened.
In October 2023 there was a similar incident at a McDonald’s in Walton, Merseyside.. A man set himself on fire outside of the restaurant around 6am. The 40-year-old man was rushed to the hospital but passed from his injuries a few hours later that same day.
The unidentified woman was transported to a local hospital for treatment where she’s being treated for burns. Police are still investigating the incident, but there’s no indication that anyone else was involved and are treating the incident as non-suspicious at this time.
This is a developing story, and further details may be released as the investigation continues.
