McDonald’s is making waves again with the introduction of its newest creation, the Big Arch Burger, designed to be even bigger than the Big Mac. This burger behemoth is currently undergoing testing in three select international markets for one year, two markets reportedly being Canada and Portugal.

A Bigger, Bolder Burger

While specifics about the Big Arch Burger are still under wraps, early reports suggest that this new menu item will be a substantial departure from the classic McDonald’s fare. With promises of “two beef patties, melted cheese, crispy toppings, and a tangy McDonald’s sauce,” the Big Arch is positioned as a quintessential McDonald’s burger with a powerful punch.

CEO Chris Kempenzinski announced the Big Arch, saying: “It’s a quintessential McDonald’s burger with a twist on our iconic, familiar flavors.”

While the last location of the test markets hasn’t been publicly disclosed yet, it’s likely that McDonald’s is carefully selecting diverse regions to gauge consumer preferences across different demographics.

A few months ago, McDonald’s discussed coming out with a new bigger and cheaper burger to entice customers.

CFO Ian Borden spoke about the intentjion: “We thought the opportunity was about premium burger which was wrong. “We weren’t successful. (The consumer wants) a large, more satiating-type burgerIf those products work, we’re then going to scale one solution to that opportunity globally.”

The fast-food giant is clearly looking to compete in the realm of larger, more indulgent burgers that have gained popularity in recent years.

Test Markets and Potential Rollout

McDonald’s is taking a strategic approach to the Big Arch launch, opting to test the burger in a few select markets before considering a wider release. This allows the company to gather valuable feedback and make necessary adjustments before potentially rolling out the burger on a national or even global scale. They did it with the $5 Value Meal Deal in New York, one year prior to going nationwide.
