McDonald’s recently announced (50+) changes coming to their burgers, and the Big Mac specifically. And now the latest development reveals plans to launch “bigger cheaper burgers”.

A meeting this past Wednesday between McDonald’s investors, executives, and representatives of the chain revealed a new intention….to give what research shows, the customers want…bigger burgers at cheaper prices.

The plan is to test several varieties of bigger burgers in select markets, and then release the one that customers respond to the most, nationwide.

Bigger and cheaper…what will the new burgers look like?

Joe Sempels, McDonald’s President of international developmental licensed markets said: “We’ve listened to our customers. And we understand their desire for larger, high-quality burgers that fill you up, and are delivered in a convenient and affordable way.”

Last week, McDonald’s announced their burger changes and how they set out to tweak their beef patties seven years ago, while also making a variety of changes to other elements of their burgers, like changing the Big Mac’s bun from the standard sesame seed, to a Brioche bun with sesame seeds “scattered” in a “homemade looking way.

The Chef charged with creating the new beef patty, Chad Shafer spent years perfecting the patty and compared the new to old saying, “One is hotter. It looks meltier. Look at how my fingers sink into the bun. Smell it and you smell a big difference.

Other changes incorporated into their burgers include; fresher lettuce, cheese, and pickles, cooking in smaller batches, onions being rehydrated, more Special Sauce on the Big Mac, and storing ingredients in smaller containers for a fresher experience. These changes have already gone into effect at many locations across the US, with many customers reporting different burgers on social media, along with complaints on them being on the small side.

McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski spoke on the bigger cheaper burgers, “In the US, in a number of markets, around the world, having a larger burger is an opportunity. We’re working on that.. That is something you should expect in the future.”

There’s no date on when the bigger burgers will be hitting but hopefully it doesn’t take the seven years it took to make the other recently implemented changes. There will likely be more announcements, and information on the bigger burgers in the near future…it’s a step in the right direction.
