McDonald’s Rolls The Clock Back To The 80’s For New Fall Addition

McDonald’s just announced that they will be bringing back an old fan favorite that saw its birth in the 1980’s.

On September 14th, Mcdonald’s will roll out the sticky sweet Cheese Danish nationwide, adding it to the McCafe snack menu line-up for the fall season.

Though the Danish has made several short-lived comebacks since the 80’s in limited runs, it hasn’t been a regular staple on the menu since Marty McFly traveled back through time in Doc Brown’s DeLorean.

For just a while, the Cheese Danish will be revamped into a more ‘modern version’ of the original danish. If you remember previous versions – this one will have a more distinct, structured appearance rather than the round shaped Mcdonald’s Danish of yore.

This addition comes as other fast food restaurant chains have been employing similar marketing techniques, hoping to attract customers to their menus by ‘flashing back’ to ye olde forgotten, advertising campaigns and lower prices (BK selling the Whopper for its original price of $0.37).

Mcdonald’s is attempting to go against the grain for the Fall season by unleashing the Cheese Danish in a ploy to stand out and “switch up their seasonal routines in a world of pumpkin, maple and pecan,” as per a recent press release.

According to CNN – McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski said in a recent earnings call that breakfast was its “strongest performing daypart”.

The Cheese Danish is the latest on Mcdonald’s roster and their plans to appeal to customers’ nostalgia to strengthen their morning numbers.

“If you remember, a few years ago, I think there were a bunch of questions about breakfast,” Kempczinksi continued, in Mcdonald’s earnings call (Seekingalpha.com).

Hopefully the Fall season will come and go but the Cheese Danish won’t. Fans of the Danish (and the 80’s) hope that it won’t go the way of shoulder pads and acid-washed jeans.
