McDonald’s is testing the waters with a new spin on a chicken classic. It’s called the Grand McChicken and it’s a larger version of the original McChicken which currently lives on the value menu.
The Grand McChicken is slated to be bigger, and better than the original and incorporates all of the same ingredients, only magnified.
McDonald’s started testing the Grand McChicken on August 23rd in select locations, including several markets in California, and Nevada.
The Grand McChicken
- Shredded Lettuce
- Mayo
- Bigger Chicken patty
- Toasted bun
Per a press release, McDonald’s was uncertain on when the Grand McChicken might hit restaurants nationwide, “we’re focused on understanding customer demand for the Grand McChicken during this test and have no information on a broader expansion.”
It’s a similar concept to the Grand Big Mac, which was introduced in Canada, Australia, and the UK in 2022. Based off the staple Big Mac, the upgrade turned it into the larger “Grand” version, and hasn’t seen the states yet.
The Grand McChicken similarily has been released in other countries under a different name.
In the fast food chicken sandwich wars, this may be McDonald’s answer to chains like Popeyes, and Chick-fil-A’s popular offerings in the sandwich arena.
Chick-fil-A also announced last week that a new chicken sandwich was hitting the menu on August 28th for the first time in years, the Honey Pimento Chicken Sandwich. The chain tried thirty different recipes, and tested consumers in several markets over the course of two years before taking it nationwide.
Like Chick-fil-A, McDonald’s will test the waters before committing to introducing the Grand McChicken to each location in the United States. It all depends on the feedback of consumers in California, and Nevada.
Does the Grand McChicken have what it takes to de-throne the top chicken sandwiches currently in the fast food game?
