Papa John’s is bringing back and serving up the popular Jack-O-Lantern pizza once more this Halloween reports Chewboom.
For a limited time, fans of the jolly pizza with the pumpkin likeness can order the pie from October 24th to Halloween.
The pizza consists of a base of thin crust with pepperoni’s sliced up to outline and draw out the Jack-O’-Lantern shape. Olives mark the center for the eyes.
One word of caution is that the pizza is served unsliced so as to not mar the hokey face – so you may want to have a pizza slicer on hand.
The pizza is the perfect accompaniment for a kid’s party or Halloween shindig to set the mood for the holiday.
A behind the scenes look from a Papa John’s employee’s discussion on Reddit reveals a bit of controversary in regards to the seasonal pizza.
An innocent question was posed to the subreddit by someone at r/PapaJohns asking if the seasonal pumpkin pizza would be back this year because they hadn’t seen any promo’s for it yet. .
Several employees virtually groaned over the prospect of it’s return.
Apparently when the order comes in for the Jack-O-Lantern pizza…it can bog down the production of other pizzas because it has to be carefully assembled.
Other employee’s chimed in that the dissenters just didn’t want to put in the extra effort to make it and assured the original poster that if they wanted to order it, it wouldn’t be a problem.
An echoed sentiment by multiple Papa John’s employees, was that the pizza gives customer less for more money.
Take it as you will, the seasonal pie is obviously ordered for the gimmick of the thing and not the amplified “Jack-O-Lantern taste”.
Sometimes it’s cute to have a decorated food thing. It’s perfect to set the Halloween mood. Which is exactly what the extra price is paying for…
