Sonic Drive-In is serving up a taste of the cosmos with their new Blackout Slush Float, a limited-time beverage arriving just in time for the total solar eclipse happening on April 8th, 2024.
Starting March 25th, Sonic will be adding the Blackout Slush Float to menu’s nationwide.
What Is A Blackout Slush?
This celestial concoction features black slush paired with flavors of cotton candy and dragon fruit. The dark color is supposed to reflect the temporary darkness that will blanket the sky during the eclipse, while the sweet and tangy flavors promise an out-of-this-world experience.
It’s topped with a dollop of creamy white soft serve ice cream, resembling a bright moon against the starry night. To complete the cosmic theme, the treat is finished with blue and purple sprinkles that shimmer like galaxies.

Sonic has partnered with former NASA astronaut Terry Virts to provide tips on safe eclipse viewing. And, while supplies last, every purchase of a Blackout Slush Float comes with a free pair of special eclipse glasses, ensuring customers can safely gaze at the celestial spectacle.
In early January, Sonic introduced a peanut buttery burger called the SuperSonic Double Cheeseburger. The limited-edition burger made use of bacon, and peanut buttery for aa complementary crunch, and creamy twist. You know it must’ve been serious because USA Today readers voted the SuperSonic Double Cheeseburger #9 in a list of the Top 10 burgers.
