Disgust is brewing over McDonald’s Little Mermaid Happy Meal packaging choice for one single apple slice. It sent customers running to social media to express their horror and concern over the issue.
A user on Reddit snapped a picture of the plastic wastage that clearly showed one single, little apple slice wrapped in plastic that was way too big for it’s contents. The apple slice is one of two sides offered in the McDonald’s Happy Meal.
The disgust mounted because The Little Mermaid movie revival that recently hit theatres, centers around a story that showcases the “ocean” prominently. And that McDonalds has partnered with Disney to advertise the movie while contributing to the plastic problem in the name of the movie.

The replies were rolling in with disdain for the McDonalds corporation, aghast at the ironic faux pas.
“I guarantee McDonald’s doesn’t see the irony like at all. No shot.”
“F***ing corporate suits are just all so out of touch…I can’t believe that all of these decisions are actively made by real humans in board rooms and not some AI programmed to make the most ridiculous over the top evil dystopian choices.”
“Surprised nobody has sued them for false advertising as it says apple “slices” and there’s only one in the bag.”
“Tbf, the movie was about the mermaid who loves collecting random shit people dropped in the ocean.”
The disbelief was high at the blatant contribution to plastic pollution in the ocean, and many countless sea creatures being affected adversely by its presence.
McDonald’s was also recently in hot water over another Happy Meal related incident that had mother’s finding box cutters inside numerous Happy Meal boxes in the Detroit-area.
The authorities, and McDonalds managers were contacted over the disturbing finds but no there is still no word on action taken by the franchise over it, if any.
