Wendy’s has confirmed the closure of 12 locations across Michigan as part of a nationwide initiative to shutter 140 underperforming restaurants. This follows the recent closure of at least three Wendy’s locations in Denver, Colorado.

Each location in the state that closed, is owned by the franchisee, Livonia-based Team Schostak Family Restaurants.

Customers shared pictures on social media showing signs on the front door of each Wendy’s location indicating permanent closure.

Wendy’s announced the closing of at least 140 locations in November – though they didn’t announce which locations would be permanently closing, this recent wave is likely to be apart of that announcement.

In statement they said, “By the end of 2024, we will have opened more than 500 new restaurants over the last two years and have confidence we will deliver elevated growth in 2025 and the years to come,” according to a statement from the company. “With more than 85 Wendy’s restaurants in the Denver area, customers can continue to enjoy our fresh, great-tasting food and fan favorites at their local Wendy’s restaurant.”

In 2023, Burger King announced the impeding closure of over 400 locations by 2024, and late last summer, KFC closed over 50 locations in the mid-west.

Wendy’s locations shuttered in Colorado:

  •  2485 S. University Blvd
  • 515 S. Broadway St
  • University Hills shopping center at 2770 S Colorado Blvd

Wendy’s locations shuttered in Michigan:

  • Adrian — 644 S Main St.
  • Belleville — 11000 Belleville Rd.
  • Brighton — 9370 Lee Rd.
  • Coldwater — 525 E Chicago St.
  • Dimondale — 9805 Davis Hwy.
  • Ionia — 2620 S State Rd.
  • Lansing — 2727 Eaton Rapids Rd, and 3920 West Saginaw
  • Novi — 26245 Novi Rd.
  • Schoolcraft — 12793 N US 131.
  • Tecumseh — 1301 W Chicago Blvd.
  • Ypsilanti — 2735 Washtenaw Ave.

Wendy’s has attributed the closures to several factors, including; declining sales, increased competition, aging buildings, and customer demand. It’s to be noted, that Wendy’s intends to open new locations in better markets, although they have yet to announce where or when they will be.

Despite these closures, Wendy’s remains a prominent player in the fast-food market. The company plans to focus on improving the customer experience at its remaining locations through renovations, menu innovation, and enhanced digital ordering options.
