Subway is doing a thing, a small thing…and shrinking it’s sub to 3-inches to make it more affordable for budget-conscious customers.

Subway locations based in Pakistan are taking a unique approach to inflation by downsizing their subs to save money, and provide value to customers in the process.

Like locations in the United States, Pakistan Subway’s (100 locations) offer 12-inch and 6-inch subs. The call for a cheaper option puts an additional miniature 3-inch Inflation sub on the menu.

“Our New Mini Sub is the cutest explosion of taste you’ll ever experience! Enjoy Mini Sub only in Rs. 360!”

The bite-sized sub has a price-point of 360 Rupees or just $1.21.

Many chains in the fast food industry have had to raise their prices to off-set the effects of inflation. And there has been less value across the board to boot.

Value menu’s themselves are largely missing-in-action, or have been parsed down considerably from where they were at just a few years ago. McDonald’s “$1 menu” is a thing of the past replaced with a “value menu” where the average price is $3.

Taco Bell is one of the few major players still offering cheap menu options for customers on a budget, and it shows in their popularity.

Treat Culture is also on the rise, a process where consumers are splurging on snacks as a luxury purchase.

Bloomberg Economics spoke with Ankur Shukla, a South Asia expert who said, “Price gains are set to pick up again as a weaker rupee drives up import costs and the government increases prices for fuel and utilities to meet the International Monetary Fund’s aid terms.” Shukla, expects inflation to average 30% in the last four months of this year.

For now, the 3-inch option is only available in Pakistan but it would be nice if it came to the US for only $1.21!
