Wendy’s has just released the news that many have been waiting for. The Vanilla Frosty is coming back after being put on a hiatus since last spring (Courtesy of: Parade).
The creamy malt-esque treat, is one of the franchise’s most popular items on their menu.
When the decision was announced on their intent to pull one of the popular flavors, the Vanilla Frosty, there were few happy campers in the bunch.
Patrons of Wendy’s had become attached to the two staple Frosty options, but it was originally only the Chocolate Frosty that existed; being introduced in 1969, and it stayed that way until the early 2000’s when the Vanilla Frosty joined the fun.
Numerous requests for it’s continued stay, saw it become a permanent fixture on the menu in 2006.
The franchise began mixing it up dessert-wise in recent years, and on their 50th anniversary they offered a limited-edition Birthday Cake Frosty Cookie Sundae in 2019. Nothing was taken off the menu to make way for the addition since the base was vanilla.
It’s become standard with fast food restaurants to try their hand at different concoctions by offering them seasonally. And sometimes that means they have to “make a trade” on the menu to make room for the new.
The reason that Wendy’s can’t have all of the flavors in unison is because they only have two machines to make the Frosty’s. And each machine is dedicated to it’s very own flavor.
So Wendy’s made the decision to nix the Vanilla option and keep the Chocolate, at least temporarily so that they could try out their new seasonal, Frosty flavors.
The Vanilla was put on hold for the Strawberry Frosty, in May. And then in November, the Peppermint Frosty hit the scene.
Die-head fans of the vanilla flavored Frosty were none too pleased with the long absence. And they voiced their discontent on a Wendy’s dedicated Reddit:
Well, since the long-awaited news of the Vanilla Frosty’s return has been making the rounds, it’s being met with a resounding relief..
The next time Wendy’s tries to “get cute” and add a seasonal Frosty into the mix, they should add a third machine to accommodate the new, instead of deleting a classic and angering the patrons who have come to expect their favorites to be on demand.
Nothing wrong with sticking to the “tried and true”.
