According to a recent report by Yahoo Finance, some chains have consistently garnered negative reviews and user criticism leading to a compiled list of the top (or bottom?) worst-rated fast food chains in the US.

One of the methods Yahoo used to find the worst chains consisted of combing through Reddit threads using search terms like “worst fast food in the US”, and “America’s worst fast food restaurants” to find the chains with the most negative reactions.

There are 13 chains to make the cut with some popular fast food chains mysteriously absent from the results:

Worst Fast Food Chains In The US

13. Arby’s: Customer service and an apparent drop in the quality of their food has been a common complaint with Arby’s. As well as rising prices.

12. Taco Bell: has been getting on people’s bad side with price increases and small portions.

11. Carl’s Jr.: People have been pointing out that the raising of prices and the reduced size of items like their burgers is making the chain a last resort stop.

10. Sonic Drive-In: Known for its carhop service and nostalgic atmosphere, has received criticism for slow service and inconsistent food quality.

9. Krystal: Similar to White Castle, Krystal specializes in small, square hamburgers. Reviews for Krystal highlight concerns similar to those for White Castle, including questions about food quality and taste.

8. Jack in the Box: has a reputation for inconsistency and occasional hygiene concerns. Negative reviews often mention long wait times, subpar food quality, and cleanliness issues.

7.White Castle: Known for its sliders, White Castle has received mixed reviews. While some users appreciate its unique taste and historical significance, others find the food to be greasy and unappetizing.

6. Pizza Hut: Once a beloved pizza chain, Pizza Hut seems to have fallen out of favor with some Reddit users. Common complaints include a decline in quality, lack of innovation, and a greasy aftertaste.

5. Del Taco: The menu lacks the frequent innovation seen in other chains. Prices are climbing rapidly and portions are going down, and the app no longer has the deals customers are looking for.

4. KFC: has been losing its luster over the past however many years. Its been dethroned by Popeye’s for the #2 chicken chain spot, and frequently described to have good quality issues.

3. Subway: Customers have been complaining that the quality of food has gone down while prices have increased exponentially. Does anyone remember the now extinct $5 Foot Long?

2. Burger King: With hundreds of locations closing, rising prices, and quality issues…the chain has been on people’s “bad” side for a while now.

1. Long John Silvers: Is known for having the worst quality fish of all the chains. In fact, research done in 2013 by the Center for Science in the Public Interest determined that the “Big Fish” is in fact the most unhealthy meal in the US. To add to that, customers are constantly coming across quality issues with the food.

Some interesting observations, McDonald’s, Popeye’s, Domino’s didn’t make the cut. Neither did Chick-Fil-A which isn’t surprising as Chick-Fil-A was determined the best fast food chain by ACSI (the American Consumer Satisfaction Index) in 2023. The results of the same study placed McDonald’s in last place.

Do you agree with the results as given by mass consumer opinion?
