Fast food, a quick and convenient meal option, has taken the world by storm. Despite its ubiquitous nature, not all fast food looks or tastes the same, and many twists often lead to some unique and interesting dishes.

Here are ten random fast food dishes from over the years that we found to be pretty bizarre…

10. Burger King Kuro Pearl Burger:

These unusual looking burgers can be found only at Burger King’s located in Japan. The Kuro Pearl Burger gets their coloring from bamboo charcoal, black pepper flavored patties, and squid ink infused garlic sauce.

The addition of black cheese was added in 2013 (the Kuro Diamond Burger) to really round out the odd color scheme. The Kuro Burgers were first unveiled in 2012, and have made appearances as a limited-time offering ever since.

9. McDonald’s McDLT:

Introduced in the 1980s, the McDLT was meant to be an innovative burger concept.

It was served in a two-compartment Styrofoam container designed to keep the lettuce and tomato separate from the hot beef patty, thus maintaining the perfect temperature and texture of each component.

However, due to environmental concerns related to the Styrofoam packaging, McDonald’s discontinued the McDLT in the early 90s.

8. Burger King’s Enormous Omelette Sandwich:

Launched in 2005, this giant breakfast item boasted an entire meal within a sandwich. Loaded with eggs, cheese, bacon, and sausage, it was a hearty way to start the day.

Too much cheese, and egg made this creation look like a mighty mess. And the high calorie content and health concerns led to its discontinuation.

7. Taco Bell’s Bell Beefer:

Released in the 1970s, this was Taco Bell’s attempt at a burger. Instead of a bun filled with beef and traditional burger toppings, the Bell Beefer was a bun loaded with taco meat, lettuce, onions, and mild border sauce.

Despite a cult following, it was dropped from the menu in the 90s.

6. Pizza Hut’s Priazzo:

In the mid-1980s, Pizza Hut introduced the Priazzo, a deep-dish, double-decker pizza. It was labor-intensive to prepare, causing long wait times, which eventually led to its discontinuation.

5. Wendy’s Superbar

In the 80s and 90s, Wendy’s introduced the Superbar, a self-service buffet featuring salad, fruit, and hot pasta.

While it was initially popular, maintenance and quality control issues led to its removal.

4. Jack in the Box Burger Dippers:

Tested in 2019, these Burger Dippers were marketed as a dippable fried burger reminiscent of a nugget.

It was coated with a mysterious breading mixed with sesame seeds that enshrouded a sliced hamburger patty. Despite testing the market in California, the product didn’t resonate with customers and was removed from the menu.

3. McDonald’s Onion Nuggets:

Before there were McNuggets, there were Onion Nuggets. McDonald’s debuted the Onion Nuggets in the late 1970’s to less than stellar appraise.

The deep-fried onion mix was only around for a short while before being abandoned in favor of creating a new chicken-based dish. The McNuggets were concocted around the basic concept of the Onion Nugget, and a star was born.

2. Pizza Hut Doritos Crunchy Crust Pizza:

Introduced in Australia in 2014, the Dorito crust pizza was essentially mozzerella cheese as the cement holding everything together, which was then covered in Cheesy Doritos, and further sprinkled with cheddar.

A crunch-tastic experience in every bite, this pizza was only ever available in Australia.

1. Subway’s Seafood Sensation:

Once a staple on the Subway menu, the Seafood Sensation was a sub filled with a seafood and crab blend drenched in mayo. It was discontinued due to dwindling popularity and possible concerns about seafood quality.

These forgotten fast food items reflect a fascinating mix of innovation, ambition, and occasional missteps. While some of these items are missed by their fans, others serve as a testament to the fast food industry’s willingness to experiment and adapt to changing customer tastes and societal trends.
