As heard through the always reliable grapevine that is Reddit, an employee for Burger King alluded to the possibility of the chain adding a cheesesteak to the menu in the coming weeks/months. This news comes after the Philly Cheese launch in Argentina was recently announced.
The details are obviously slim, but chances are, this is definitely happening. Whether it will be a test launch in a limited area or a nationwide release is another question but the OP’s confirmed location is Washington state.
Testing a New Philly Cheesteak?
u/OkDelivery4270, the self-described Burger King employee on Reddit, dropped the greasy bomb in the r/Burger King subreddit yesterday. In the post a few employees discuss the coming new ‘Philly Cheese’ sandwich…”
Someone else who works at Burger King replied, corroborating: “That explains why 10 gallon packages of Cheese Wiz appeared last week on franchise order forms with no explanation.”
The only confirmed aspect in this is that Cheez Whiz is involved. Another used simply chimed in “it’s a melt” without further explanation.
Philly Cheesteaks From BK’s Past
There have been several cheesesteak variants over the years, released in both the US and internationally. The current Argentinian version features a sub-style roll while the previous US version, the standard Whopper-style bun.
Since this isn’t coming completely out of left field with Burger King testing the waters internationally launching the Philly Cheese in Argentina, a stateside debut could reveal a whole new ball game or it could be one and the same.
A melt or sub-style cheesesteak would both be welcome additions to the BK menu.
Stay tuned, fast foodies! The reign of the Whopper may soon be challenged by the King of Cheese Steaks.
