Burger King is currently testing an all-new line of flame-grilled chicken sandwiches and wraps in select markets.
Starting June 6th, customers in Omaha, Nebraska and Huntsville, Alabama will be the first to taste these new menu items. The lineup features three flame-grilled chicken breast sandwiches: the Classic, the Fiery, and the Bacon & Swiss Royal Crispy.
This test run suggests Burger King is looking to diversify its menu and compete more directly with chicken sandwich giants like Chick-fil-A and Popeyes.
Details on the specific ingredients of each sandwich haven’t been released, but the names offer some clues. The Classic will likely be a straightforward option, while the Fiery promises a spicy kick. The Bacon & Swiss Royal Crispy hints at a sandwich with melty cheese and smoky bacon.

The flame-grilled wrap options are to include: Classic, Fiery, Honey Mustard, Philly, Fiery Bacon and Bacon and Cheddar.
Whether these new chicken options will become permanent menu items depends on customer reception in the test markets. If Omaha and Huntsville rave about the flame-grilled chicken, expect to see them rolled out nationwide soon.
In April, Burger King tested the Philly Cheese internationally in Argentina and then brought it to the US last month. The move was surprising because it moved from the testing stage to a nationwide launch in the US so fast. It’s not out of the ordinary for testing items to be limited to select markets for a year or more.
Burger King has experimented with chicken sandwiches before, but this test with flame-grilled options seems like a more focused effort to take on the competition. And the flame-grilled aspect has always been reserved for the burgers so applying it to a chicken sandwich is something we didn’t know we needed.
