Denny’s has posed a challenge to the public at large put forth through an ad, (open letter) in a few publications like, USA today, and the LA Times. It’s a challenge of sorts that will turn bacon-lovers into sleuths to ring in the return of the Baconalia menu, and possibly…free bacon for everyone.
The press release headline reads:
Hey America, Want Free Bacon?
Denny’s
Denny’s wants us to find specific, bacon-loving celebrities by using a handful of clues to figure out their identities, and tagging them through social media with the hashtag #baconalia, and urging them to go to Denny’s, to order bacon.
The result of this bacon-focused scavenger hunt, would be free bacon (a side of bacon) for America on August 21st…or at least free for anyone with the Rewards app, that is.
Denny’s President, John Dillon said: “This campaign is more than just a quest for bacon — it’s a celebration of our shared love for great food and unforgettable experiences. In honor of our 70th anniversary, we’re thrilled to reintroduce Baconalia after a decade-long hiatus by uniting bacon enthusiasts with the joy of free bacon. Start sleuthing, America!”
Denny’s listed three clues, and advised that if even “one” of these mystery celebrities heeded the call, that America would get their bacon.
Clue #1 is: This model knows her way around the kitchen, even a few game shows. And don’t get us started on her comedic social posts – some may even say they’re legendary.
The Baconalia Menu was introduced for the first time in 2013, and is making it’s reappearance alongside a partnership with Hormel Black Label. The menu features numerous entrees, and desserts that are built around bacon.

The publicity stunt is designed to drum up business like every chain worth their salt has done in the past, and more than likely the celebrities are in on it. If you’re up for the challenge ( and free bacon), get sleuthin’!
If Kevin Bacon isn’t part of this little scheme though, that’s going to be one major missed opportunity.
