The internet is abuzz with the rumor that the return of McDonald’s iconic Halloween pails (or buckets as some prefer) is upon us. According to Yahoo News, the website Nightmare Nostalgia is behind the claim that a leaked image is showing a calendar marked with the date of the pails release.
The Halloween pails go back over 35 years but saw their heyday during the 1990’s as Happy Meal containers turned Trick or Treat bucket (first released in 1986) and came in three key figures – a witch, a ghost and of course…the pumpkin.
At one time the Halloween pails of McDonald’s were a ubiquitous bunch – before, during, and after Halloween. They became catch-all’s, sometimes relegated to storing bric-a-brac in the months thereafter their primary time to shine.
Since they first came on the scene, the Halloween pails have seen many versions and varying takes throughout the years.
In 2012, the pails were Scooby-Doo themed and didn’t resemble the classics save for the pail shape.
The last year that the pails emerged (and only in form) was 2016, and they once more, weren’t the classic versions but “The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” themed. That’s fine and dandy but bucket lovers everywhere would have preferred the staple faces of the ghost, witch, and, pumpkin.
It seems that with the rumor making the rounds across social media and posts that are confirming it – the classic pails should be rising up from their slumber and rollicking their way to a McDonald’s near you this Halloween season.
Website Halloween Nostalgia wrote,” Well, folks, it may be unofficial for now. But, I have it on good authority that McDonald’s may have FINALLY heard our cries of justice for the triumphant return of the McDonald’s Halloween Pail for the 2022 spooky season!”
They allege that the pails will drop on October 18th and run until October 31st – also saying that McDonald’s employees have “chimed” in to reveal that the rumor is true.
Scores of Twitter users are losing it over the suggestion that the pails may be back, with tweets lighting up with demands of the many who need confirmation of the comeback.
There is only less than a month to go for the date of the Halloween Pails latest debut. If these are as beloved as social media posts are telling us, there may be an actual stampede heading to McDonald’s on the 18th.
