Roseville, Michigan – A Roseville man has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of his roommate following a reported argument over a Taco Bell order.
Mark Newsome, 54, is accused of fatally beating his roommate, 72-year-old Dale Mitchell, on January 31st, 2024. According to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office, the altercation began as a verbal dispute over a Taco Bell meal and escalated to physical violence.
Newsome allegedly punched Mitchell multiple times in the head, resulting in fatal injuries. Two other roommates residing in the home at the time told local news outlets they were unaware of the argument until they awoke to find the house in disarray.
The roommates said Newsome had accused Mitchell of stealing his Taco Bell but didn’t know the particulars of the ordeal.
“It scared the hell out of me,” said Bob McQuade, one of the roommates. “To think a fight over food would turn into murder…it’s just unbelievable.”
Roommates, Melton and McQuade were both asleep when the altercation between Newsome and Mitchell began. They described the yelling that could be heard in the other room: “‘Why are you doing this? ‘” Mitchell asked. “Why are you doing this? ” Leave me alone. I heard, ‘Quit, please quit. ‘”
Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido: “We are committed to ensuring that justice is served for the victim and his family.”
Newsome is being held without bond in Macombe County Jail awaiting trial.
