McDonald’s might be about to set your mouth on fire (in a good way). The chain is testing a new Ghost Pepper McChicken in a limited market…or rather, a limited location.

Before you get in your car and get your napkins all in a bunch, this fiery chicken sandwich isn’t blazing across the menu boards everywhere, yet. Apparently, it’s currently being tested at just one location – the McDonald’s headquarters in Chicago at Hamburger University.

This isn’t the first time McDonald’s has flirted with the idea of a ghost pepper-flavored sandwich. Our neighbors in Canada got to enjoy a Ghost Pepper McChicken for the first time in 2019, and it sounds like the experiment might be making its way south.

McDonald’s Canada came out with a line of 3 spicy McChickens; the jalapeno Pepper Spicy McChicken, the habanero Pepper Spicy McChicken, and the Ghost Pepper McChicken. They even had a Szechuan McChicken at one point.

Ghost Pepper McChicken Might Be Comin’ In Hot

What can we expect from this potential sandwich? Details are slim, but based on the Canadian version, it likely features the classic McChicken patty kicked up a notch with a ghost pepper sauce. Think fiery heat with a smoky undertone – in all likelihood, it will be a mild spice and not something to bring your milk out over.

Whether the Ghost Pepper McChicken will launch nationwide or not, one thing’s for sure, McDonald’s seems to be testing the waters of the spicy fast-food market. They also just announced a nationwide return of their Spicy Chicken McNuggets. A precursor to the Ghost Pepper McChicken?
