Little Caesars, the iconic budget-friendly pizza chain, is making waves with its latest product trial: Pizza!Pizza! By The Yard at select markets. This isn’t your average rectangular pizza; we’re talking about a 3 foot-long, rectangular pizza cut into 4-inch slices, designed to feed a crowd – or satisfy a serious pizza craving.

The new reboot of an old and legendary pizza concept is currently being tested in select locations in Virginia and North Carolina for the time being. Pizza!Pizza! By The Yard brings us back to the 90’s when the iconic Pizza By The Foot, and Pizza Hut’s equally as legendary “Big Foot Pizza” came out. The pizza’s were so big that the former needed to be served in it’s own custom-made cardboard box, and then wrapped in paper…andthe latter needed to be packaged in a bag because they didn’t fit into the chains’ standard packaging.

Let’s delve into the details and explore if this new-ish pizza innovation is a marketing gimmick or a potential game-changer for the pizza industry.

The By The Yard Concept

The Pizza!Pizza! By The Yard consists of a Detroit-Style Deep Dish pizza served in two boxes to make one yard or a 3-foot long pizza. Each box has eight slices in it with 3 Meat Treat and eight slices of pepperoni distributed throughout. The slices are stacked lengthwise, like a yardstick.

The core idea is simple: offer a longer pizza, perfect for parties, large gatherings, or those with an insatiable appetite. Little Caesars is known for its value offerings, and the Pizza by the Yard reportedly feeds 4-6 people, making it an potentially cost-effective option for feeding a group.

The Potential:

  • Catering to large groups: This format seems tailor-made for parties, events, or families with big appetites. With its customizable options and potentially competitive price point, it could become a go-to for feeding a crowd.
  • Novelty factor: The unique, elongated shape definitely grabs attention and adds a fun element to pizza night. This novelty could drive initial sales and social media buzz.
  • Operational challenges: Scaling production and ensuring consistent quality for such a non-standard pizza size could pose logistical challenges for Little Caesars.

The Skepticism:

  • Gimmick or lasting appeal? While the initial novelty might attract customers, some question whether the format offers long-term appeal over traditional pizzas.
  • Price vs. value: While details are limited, the price needs to be carefully balanced to offer true value against other Little Caesars options and competitor offerings.
  • Waste and portion control: With its large size, concerns exist about potential food waste and the temptation to overindulge.

The trial period will reveal key insights into customer reception, operational feasibility, and overall profitability. This test run highlights Little Caesars’ willingness to experiment, and even bring back nostalgic customer favorites to potentially pave the way for further innovation in the pizza industry. Whether it’s a fleeting fad or a game-changer, one thing’s for sure: Pizza!Pizza! By The Yard or…By The Foot, we’ve been waiting for a reboot since the 90’s!
