The new vegan chicken ‘fast food’ chain, Project Pollo has their sights set high. Their aim to reign supreme in the world of fast service plant-based meals is being backed by the former CEO of McDonalds.

The fast food industry has been alight with news and tests on plant-based everything.

Is this just a trend that the bandwagon is carousing around on or is the vegan version of a fast food alternative setting its teeth into a market that is ready for it?

Former McDonalds CEO, Steve Easterbook seems to think so. He recently gifted a growth investment into Project Pollo and was announced as an advisor to the CEO Lucas Bradbury for the budding chain.

He sees a future in plant-based meals intertwined with fast casual service.

We aim to be the leader in plant-based restaurants, specifically [in] quick-service restaurants,” Bradbury says in a statement. “[Easterbrook] adds world-class value, and as a direct advisor to the CEO, I know he will help me develop into the leader I am capable of becoming.”

With Easterbrook’s extensive history in the fast food industry, he oversaw a declining McDonald’s brand when he took the reins in 2015.

He prompted a renewal and modernization of McDonald’s infrastructure and technology which kept McDonald’s on the up and up.

The goal is to guide Pollo on it’s way up from a few handful’s of locations…to over one hundred by 2025.

Project Pollo appeared in season 13 of Shark Tank and they didn’t get the deal they were hoping for but it hasn’t stopped Pollo from expanding across the state of Texas and setting stakes down in AZ, CO, and NV.

The pandemic had proved to be a pivotal time for the growing chain – they saw growth, where others were failing.

The man in charge, Lucas Bradbury – has quite the lofty goal, he wants to put Chick-fil-A out of business. No one’s saying it can’t be done but plant-based meals in a chain setting have a long way to go before pulling off the unthinkable.

Is the world ready for plant-based eats on a large scale?

It might take a while to catch on with the masses and for the scene to work out the kinks but even if you’re not quite ready for it, maybe it will be like Marty McFly in Back to the Future says to the mystified crowd…”but your kids are gonna love it”.
