This is a new one – Taco Bell is throwing themselves under the bus in what today.com is calling an “apology tour.” The chain has hired none other than Pete Davidson to be their mouth-piece for this odd display of self-inflicted tattling.
In the past Taco Bell made a few misguided attempts at breakfast creations or as Davidson said, “went a bit crazy” – namely, the Waffle Taco which is pretty self-explanatory and the Naked Taco that saw it’s contents swaddled entirely in a shell comprised of egg.
The latter received the distinction as being the “worst fast food breakfast in 2017” according to one review from tasty.com.
Someone somewhere in the upper echelon of fat cats steering marketing teams decided that for these trespasses, it would be not only a good idea to acknowledge these failings but to also put a big spot light on them while apologizing in the image of Pete Davidson.
Taco Bell wants to tell the world that they’re repenting…getting down to brass tacks ala a more simple breakfast menu.
Pete Davidson will be swearing on Taco Bell’s behalf to “tone things” down breakfast-wise by starring in an ad campaign that will run from October to December.
The first thirty second ad shows Davidson explaining the situation while doing his best Slim Shady.
Comments for the commercial uploaded to Youtube are generally negative and confused by the pairing:
“This has got to be one of the worst apologies ever lmaoo wtf is pete davidson doing here.”
Judging from the picture, Davidson practiced his best “Aw shucks we’re sorry” face to no avail and instead ended up looking slightly petrified and just a touch constipated.
“I like to think I might be the muse behind Live Más, which is probably why they brought me on to apologize for their maybe-too-extreme innovations in the mornings,” said Pete Davidson, in a press release.
Hopefully Davidson doesn’t get a tattoo of anything Taco Bell related like he did with Kim Kardashian…then the jig’s up.
