Taco Bell is back at it, testing the waters with a new menu item that’s here to compete with the clown. The chain is yet again, testing their might in the chicken nugget game, but with a Taco Bell twist.

Currently being tested in select Houston, Texas locations, Taco Bell’s Crispy Chicken Nuggets are made with all-white meat chicken. But what sets them apart is the marinade: a zesty jalapeño buttermilk to add some subtle kick.

Why are they testing the chicken nuggets again and not pushing them for a nationwide launch? We think they may need some tweaking before they make that decision. Perhaps they received some negative feedback in the markets they were testing.

Taco Bell is also offering two dipping sauce options this time aroud to complement the chicken. First up is their signature Bell Sauce, a tangy and savory sauce with a hint of spice, perfect for those who love the classic Taco Bell flavor. But for those who crave a little more adventure, there’s also the new Jalapeño Honey Mustard sauce, which combines sweet honey with a spicy jalapeño punch.

This isn’t the first time Taco Bell has tested chicken nuggets obviously. Last October, they offered a similar item in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This time around, they seem to be focusing on the flavor profile of the chicken itself, with the jalapeño buttermilk marinade and dipping sauces to add a new dimension to experience.

The Crispy Chicken Nuggets can be ordered in the Texas locations as a 5-piece or 10-piece with the prices starting at $3.49 and $6.49 respectively.

The chain has been on a new item testing spree for the past year. And along with the nuggets, they have been testing their “first ever frozen coffee drinks and shakes”, Churro Chillers. Only available in Chicago and Dallas right now, the beverages come in four different flavors and were also tested last December in Southern California.

There has been no word on if both the Crispy Chicken Nuggets and the Churro Chillers will become a permanent menu item as of yet.

The test run is ongoing until June 5th, or while supplies last, so if you live in the Houston area, be sure to head to your local Taco Bell and give them a try! You might just be part of the reason we see these nuggets nationwide.
